Matt Reeves has loaded up on popular villains from the Rogues' Gallery for The Batman, but the Joker hasn't been announced as part of the film.

The Clown Prince of Crime received his first standalone film, Joker, which starred Joaquin Phoenix. A young Bruce Wayne, his parents and Alfred Pennyworth were featured in the movie, leading some to wonder if Phoenix's Joker would appear in The Batman.

But Robert Pattinson, who's set to portray Bruce Wayne and the Caped Crusader in The Batman, has already stated Phoenix's version of the Joker won't be part of the upcoming blockbuster.

On his Fatman Beyond podcast, Kevin Smith brought up a rumor about Johnny Depp being cast as Joker. Smith also expressed confidence in Depp's ability to successfully portray Joker, although there aren't any indications that the Pirates of the Caribbean and Ed Wood star will actually get the prominent role in The Batman.

But it's fun to at least imagine what Depp would look like as the archenemy of the World's Greatest Detective. And thanks to some cool and creative fan art from Bosslogic, we can now picture Depp as Joker.

Could Depp's Joker join Paul Dano's Riddler,, Zoë Kravitz's Catwoman and Colin Farrell's Penguin in taking down Pattinson's Batman? Hey, one can dream.

Jack Nicholson was the first actor to portray Joker in a theatrical film, where he clashed with Michael Keaton's version of the Caped Crusader in Batman (1989). The late Heath Ledger took on the Joker role in The Dark Knight (2008), receiving universal claim for his performance. Ledger was posthumously awarded the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in his role.

There were rumors about Depp suiting up as Riddler in Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman film, but that obviously never came to be. We'll find out soon enough if Depp does indeed come aboard The Batman, but try not to hold your breath too much.
