Alec Baldwin Pushes For Halyna Hutchins’ Family’s Lawsuit To Be Dismissed
David Perry Alec Baldwin is facing several million-dollar lawsuits in connection to the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust in October 2021. However, the actor is pushing hard to get the lawsuit filed by her family dismissed.
According to court documents, Alec has filed a motion it the court to dismiss the case, arguing that Halyna’s family wasn’t close to her prior to her death, and thus have “no viable cause of action” to sue him.

Hutchins’ parents and sister filed the lawsuit in February 2022, and named Alec as well as armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, assistant director David Halls, and Rust Movie Productions, LLC, as defendants.
Alec was practicing with the pistol on the set of Rust in New Mexico when it discharged, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza in the process. The actor has the gun shouldn’t have been loaded while on set, and he wasn’t aware it had actual bullets when he pulled the trigger.
The incident has resulted in a slew of accusations about unsafe work conditions on the set of Rust, and it’s not only Alec who’s come under fire, as the Hutchins’ family’s lawsuit shows with its multiple defendants.
The family’s attorney, Gloria Allred, has responded to Alec’s recent motion, saying it’s an attempt to avoid responsibility.
" It is abundantly clear under New Mexico law , which will be applied in the California court that he is responsible for all of the harm he did to the entirety of Halyna Hutchins’ family," the lawyer said. "We are here to make sure that he is held accountable for his actions."
For now, a judge hasn’t responded to Alec’s request for dismissal, but the next hearing is scheduled for June 9th.
Alec is facing another lawsuit connected to the Rust shooting, which was filed the month after the fatality occurred. The case was filed by Serge Svetnoy, who was chief of lighting on the Rust set. He’s suing Alec, assistant director Dave Halls, armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, and several of the movie’s producers.
Svetnoy’s case is arguing that unsafe work conditions resulted in the incident, which put all of the crew in danger.
Just last month, another case was filed by several other Rust crew members, which also alleges proper precautions weren’t followed and resulted in the shooting. The case is being pursued by Ross Addiego, Doran Curtin and Reese Price, who worked as the dolly operator, set costumer, and key grip, respectively.
Up until now, Alec has denied any wrongdoing and maintains it was a complete accident – he’s even filed his own lawsuit to clear his name. The case remains ongoing.
